How to Use Custom Labels for Your Products
If you sell products online, you might want to add some extra information to them, such as brand code, product code, color, size, or any other attribute that is relevant to your business. This can help you organize your inventory, filter your products, and provide more details to your customers.
One way to do this is by using custom labels for your products. Custom labels are fields that you can create and assign to your products. You can choose the type of data that each label contains, such as text, date, or dropdown options.
In this post, we will show you how to create and use custom labels for your products using the following steps:
1. Go to Settings > Business Settings > Custom labels
2. Provide the custom label name and select the field type
3. Add options for dropdown fields if applicable
4. Save your changes
5. Go to Products > Add Product or Edit Product
6. Fill in the custom label fields for each product
7. Save your changes
Let’s go through each step in more detail.
### Step 1: Go to Settings > Business Settings > Custom labels
To create custom labels for your products, you need to go to the Settings section of your dashboard and click on Business Settings. Then, click on the Custom Labels tab.
Here, you will see a list of 20 custom fields that you can use for your products. These fields are labeled as Custom Label 1, Custom Label 2, and so on.
### Step 2: Provide the custom label name and select the field type
To activate a custom field, you need to provide a name for it and select the type of data that it will contain. You can choose from three types of fields: text, date picker, or dropdown.
Text fields allow you to enter any text that you want for your products, such as brand code, product code, or SKU.
Date picker fields allow you to select a date from a calendar for your products, such as expiration date, release date, or best-before date.
Dropdown fields allow you to create a list of options that you can choose from for your products, such as color, size, or material.
### Step 3: Add options for dropdown fields if applicable
If you choose a dropdown field for your custom label, you need to add the options that you want to appear in the dropdown menu. To do this, enter one option per line in the text box below the field type.
For example, if you want to create a dropdown field for color, you can enter:
Red
Blue
Green
Yellow
Black
White
Make sure that each option is on a separate line and that there are no blank lines between them.
### Step 4: Save your changes
Once you have named and configured your custom labels, make sure to save your changes by clicking on the Save button at the bottom of the page.
You can also edit or delete your custom labels at any time by clicking on the Edit or Delete buttons next to each label.
### Step 5: Go to Products > Add Product or Edit Product
Now that you have created your custom labels, you can use them for your products. To do this, go to the Products section of your dashboard and click on Add Product or Edit Product.
Here, you will see a section called Custom Labels where you can fill in the values for each label that you have created.
### Step 6: Fill in the custom label fields for each product
Depending on the type of field that you have chosen for your custom label, you can enter text, select a date, or choose an option from the dropdown menu.
For example, if you have created a text field for brand code, you can enter the code for each product in the corresponding field.
If you have created a date picker field for the expiration date, you can select the date from the calendar icon next to the field.
If you have created a dropdown field for color, you can choose one of the options that you have added in Step 3 from the dropdown menu.
### Step 7: Save your changes
After filling in the custom label fields for each product, make sure to save your changes by clicking on the Save button at the bottom of the page.
You can also edit or delete the values for your custom labels at any time by clicking on the Edit or Delete buttons next to each product.
That’s it! You have successfully created and used custom labels for your products. You can now use these labels to organize your inventory, filter your products by attributes, and provide more information to your customers.
